In the episode, a flashback reveals that popular personality Alastor, the Radio Demon was a mass murderer in his mortal days. Being aware he was destined for Hell, he made contact with the realm beyond beforehand to secure a strong position there. Rosie, who leads Hell’s cannibal community, vowed Alastor he would become “the strongest Condemned Soul in Hell” in exchange for his soul.

This raises the question: How is Rosie sufficiently strong to raise Alastor above all other Sinner Demons?

“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a much bigger story that encompasses so much, leading into the third season,” the showrunner states. “Obviously that is an excellent question: How is she so strong? The answer could be many things, but the revelation is in season 3. I'm very excited for people to witness it.”

It is uncertain how long the audience will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s third season. The production companies have approved seasons 3 and 4, but the showrunner frequently notes that animation is a slow, lengthy process, and subsequent seasons are undated. Still, she states holding off on those details is an important part of maintaining season 2’s attention in the right places.

“The challenge of any kind of deal with infernal beings, or narratives that have mysteries, is providing the audience sufficient clues to be like, Something's up here, and then unveiling that as we go, and allowing that be gratifying,” she says. “So I am quite eager.”

Mysteries Resolved in Season 3

The creator promises that season 3 will address the queries fans have been asking, such as why the cannibal leader ordered Alastor to disappear for a seven-year period, which weakened his influence in the infernal realm.

“The whole seven years, and the deals these humans are making, and everything — it's feeding into a bigger narrative,” she reveals.

In the meantime, the Rosie/Alastor backstory episode offers a further look into how the core cast of Demonic Sinners appeared as as humans, the second after seeing another character's Victorian-era mortal appearance in the second episode. She explains that significant consideration was put into these character designs.

“The mortal forms of these personas hold so much weight,” she says. “They vary from appearing really different from their infernal version to looking very similar. With Pentious, the first one we see, there was a little bit of a debate internally between going with something that represents the character, versus going with something that's very time-period accurate. We leaned toward making something that just felt like it was him.”

She mentions the primary controversy over Pentious’ human design was his lengthy locks: “We were like, ‘No one typically had extended hair of that style in that historical period.’ But simultaneously, we think the silhouette is extremely crucial, and we also just thought he appeared attractive. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We sort of gave the excuse that he's a hermit, so he just allowed his hair to lengthen. So there is always a solution. As we create the human versions of these characters […] it is a very enjoyable process to explore and figure out. I'm excited for fans to view additional of the appearances of the human versions.”
