Exploring an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Turdy Character on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have encountered a variety of engaging creations from small studios. Yet, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is actually a turd attempting to make its way to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: you only need a one button to leap. Throughout 150 levels, you'll face boss fights and visit a shop to acquire outfits for your fecal avatar.

Time your jumps carefully, as a wrong move forces restarting the level. Jump using bubbles to hurl the poop upward, cross fragile ledges, and activate buttons to reveal new areas. Earn coins and use them on challenging levels as gameplay intensifies.

Visually, the demo shows off eye-catching level designs and an amazing background music. The retro art of shifting geometric shapes evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though hard to name similar titles where you control a piece of feces, gaming frequently included toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create throwables from protagonist droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as plant food. And of course, this theme shows up heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly concept, Unko Technica has already garnered significant recognition, such as being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is accessible currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to debut on Steam in the fall.
